Menus, menus!


I was hard at work this week focused on improving the game's menus, but of course I found several other things to do as well. Let's start with the menus though! 

The menus that were in the game up to this point were just there to get the job done, but they lacked any visual appeal. This week, I worked on figuring out a new style for the menus and then building a generic version of that to use to build the rest of the menus. This allowed me to rebuild the in game pause menu, the adventure menu (shown during stage select), a confirmation menu, the stage completed menu, _and_ the adventure completed end of game menu. I am super pleased with the results! 

While working on the menus I also got the urge to add some new stages to "adventure 2". I only added two new stages, but I also rearranged the stages in that adventure and adjusted some other stages where I had issues while playtesting. This type of change might not be backwards compatible so I will try to minimize this in general, but I expect to do it a few times while working on these initial adventures. There is also an adventure 3 that is half-baked, and will be part of an update in the near future.

Some smaller changes that were introduced in this release include adding a number formatter to insert commas into the score (used in menus mainly, not the in game HUD). For the in game score, there have been some updates that you can see when you're on a roll scoring lots of points. The powerup spawn chances were also modified to encourage more missile use.

Up next I plan to work on adding more sound effects where they are currently missing, continuing to add stages, fix bugs, and possibly craft a proper list of planned features and future ideas. Thanks for playing!
